Going South

Come on, you know you want to visit Atlanta--especially after last night's shining endorsement of our city.

Well, if you were not scared away by the suburban bling and brawls, you can always get a room at the new W Hotel Buckhead designed by our favorite "Queer Eye", Thom Filicia.

According to Filicia and the Starwood Hotel Group last year, the design plan would combine "urban style with the city’s deep history and culture" and "traditions of Southern hospitality". I am not sure how much of this concept made it to the final reveal, but it looks fun and colorful in an Adler-esque kind of way. Even with the rash of new hotels opening in Atlanta this year, we don't have anything that looks like this.

good thing Atlanta has so many more things going for it than those horribly trashy "housewives." No matter what city though, those shows are going to embarrass you. I love boutique hotels like this one!

Hmmm...deep history and culture I'm not seeing. But I'm with Alicia...love a good boutique hotel...and will cut them lots of slack if they are not a cookie cutter yawn.

Thanks for visiting my little town. You know, interestingly. I have NEVER seen the amount of spagnum moss that I see this year on the oaks...reminds ME of GA too!

Love the hotel, Pieces and you in Atlanta but the crazy housewives, not so much!

So I'm guessing the Real Housewives was Atlanta at its finest;) (the NYC ladies were supposed to be back for a 2nd season- what happened?!) I was addicted to that trainwreck of a tv show... those women were insufferable but it was just impossible not to watch.

As for the rooms, I really like the last one. It seems more like a room that could be in a home which is nice when you've been away for a while.

I love Atlanta...of course, I'll be there for the November Scots Market a seller for the first time with a slew of French and English antiques. Naturally, I'm looking forward to swinging by my favorite designer places like Mrs. Howards.

Some globe-trotting people I know who happen to be affiliated with a major shelter mag that everyone knows and loves were just down here at the W. They were impressed, so I thought that was a good sign.

seriously? he did the design? i'm so impressed. i love his on screen personality, but i never realized he actually could 'do' in the real world. so impressed!

now i'm off to call him and find out where i can get those pillow cases.

I was so tempted to watch that horrible show, but I stopped myself. I knew I'd hate myself in the morning!

OMG, I had no idea of that show, does my poor city need any more poop flung around? NO! I say! Ug! Ug! Ug!...meanwhile our gov. prays for rain....I have been to a few of the new hotels, they don't seem that great, they look pretty, but the people there are weird and the service is weird...perhaps the W will be different...

Don't worry...those of us who read the fab Atlanta blogs know the real deal is NOT the real housewives.

And I do like Thom. Very pretty hotel! I am sure there are lots to choose from....and I am hoping to get a chance to stay in one before too long.
