“Gossip Girl” focuses on worldly little girls who join forces against one another. The series, along with such like-minded shows as the MTV semireality show “The Hills” and a cautionary senior edition, “The Real Housewives of New York City,” are focused on friends, and most of all on frenemies. They are so postfemininist that they circle back not just to “Mean Girls,” but to the pre-Friedan era of Clare Boothe Luce and Rona Jaffe.Huh? I have obviously been watching too much television since I had to look up half of the references in that paragraph. I prefer the way Rolling Stone lays it out in chart form with pictures...
(Click image to enlarge). And yes, I so agree that L.C. is on her way to Anistonville.
Although I still don't understand the exact meaning of Post-Feminism, I did learn one important thing from the Times article, The Real Housewives of New York City will be returning with "The Lost Footage" on May 27th on Bravo. Woohoo!

That CHART! I could spend my life making charts like that!
Thanks for the RHNYC scoop. I hope it serves as a kind of rebuttal to the reunion show--more of Alex's blatant social climbing, Ramona being a hooker, etc.
You're so funny with the chart. I do like to watch RHNYC, which took me entirely surprise.
If Bravo doesn't run a RHNYC marathon soon, I am going to lose it (enough of Top Chef and Work Out, already). I didn't get to see any of them, and I feel so out of the loop!
Why do people have to over-analyze entertainment??!! Post-feminism blah blah blah. I watch for the clothes and the drama! What are we going to watch now though??? Dare I watch Denise Richards' new show? Don't think there will be any wardrobe inspiration unless one is still into Juicy track suits. Great post!!
I think the hardcore journalists secretly love Gossip Girl and ilk, but have to justify their energy by writing "intellectual" pieces. I love the clothes, the shiny hair, the tunes, etc. To think that The Hills goes any deeper is hilarious.
I will give Denise Richards a shot, but have pretty low expectations. When are our OC Housewives coming back?
That is my ultimate!! They usually film in the summer so my guess is next Fall....I never watched the NYC version, sounds like I should though!!!! And New Jersey is coming too, that one ought to be real classy.
That chart!!!
I'm heading straight to my DVR to set up a reminder for RHNYC Lost Footage!
Thanks for the tip! I have one friend who I can talk to about RHNYC - when we get together the day after a show we're like...deep breath...okay go...Ramona! Break Dancing! She asked me the other day what we were going to talk about now that the show's over...
Oh, by the way, I thought the NYC girls were so much more interesting than the OC ones.

thanks for the tip on RHNYC I love that show! Sadly it's all I have to replace the void of Sex & the City (until May 30th that is).
So excited (in a Rock of Love kind of way) about RH Jersey. Yikes!
I'm not usually impressed by celebrity function, but when I was invited to an event hosted by these lovely ladies and Nylon Magazine I was like a little kid at a candy store! The party was great --- just wish the finale was just as good.
I love this post! Just discovered your blog - and was thrilled to see Gossip Girl, The Hills, and NYC Housewives all in the first post. You are my new blog fave!

I agree with the NYT article. I've spent the better part of my night trying to "get into" this Gossip Girl ness( because everyone keeps talking about it, and yes i'm ashmened to say I haven't seen it) and after forcing myself through episode 1 and watching part of episode 2 I gave up! Seriously whats the point? the show makes me feel old - i'm 26 - I just could not relate and it was so, well , i don't know , vain!
But then again, I can see myself getting into RHNYC ( haven't seen that yet either) so am i being hypocritical?
