Sunday Shopping

Remember this innovative dressing room? Well, the amazing space (and the grand, Yong Pak designed/Dan Carithers decorated townhouse to which it was a part) is priced to move. The 6,885 square foot home is on sale, currently marked down from $4.1 million to $2.85 million.

While it does not come furnished, many of the stylish finishes, like the cabinetry and wall treatments remain.

You can read Courtney's take on this Imperial Trellis clad room here.

Desk Set

Last week, visions of Aerin Lauder's closet/office danced through my head, but reality is setting in and I need a place to work. Now. Until all of my my holiday shopping is done and I inherit a billion dollar cosmetics corporation, I am operating on a next-to-nothing decorating budget.

Instead of staring wistfully at an empty room for the rest of the year, I fished this computer table, circa 1982, out of my parents' basement to use as my temporary desk. I am hoping to hide it under a coat of white paint for the time being.

Perhaps I could keep the base and add a Lucite plank a la Kelly Wearstler, photographed in her office. (From Glamour Magazine).

Of course, a modern take on the sawhorse table in this office by Ruthie Sommers is hard to beat. (As seen on Pink Wallpaper).

Atlanta Peach

Atlanta Peach Magazine, our answer to Ocean Drive, is on fire this month with profiles on Kelly Wearstler, Lee Kleinhelter of Pieces, Thom Filicia, artist Todd Murphy and chef Hugh Acheson of Five and Ten (which also has some fantastic art). If anyone wants my extra copy, email me and I will mail it to you. Otherwise, there is usually a stack of free copies in front of the Kate Spade store at Lenox.

Opening Season

With all of the excitement over Gwyneth Paltrow's pad in House and Garden, I almost overlooked this rendering of Kelly Wearstler's new boutique at Bergdorf Goodman. Strictly selling home accessories, the space is comprised of niche displays for vases, bowls and the like.

Many of the items available for sale were originally conceptualized while Wearstler was designing hotels for the Kor Hotel Group and in need of decorative accents. The in-store Design Happening will be the first opportunity to view the boutique space next weekend. (Pictured above is the Knot dish, Thorn goblet and compote). For more photos of the new inventory, check out Studio Annetta's post last week.

Because Wearstler's style is so distinctive, it would be impossible to achieve her look from one decorative object, but it should be interesting to see if her influence continues to spread on the East Coast. Photo from Modern Glamour (via Flickr).

Bravo

If not for Jonathan Adler's interview with Top Design winner Matt Lorenz in Elle Decor this month, I would have completely forgotten the show ever existed. I never made it past the initial episodes--actually, I barely made it past the annoying theme song.

When first announced, Top Design seemed full of promise. With host Todd Oldham and judges Jonathan Adler, Kelly Wearstler and Margaret Russell, the ultimate, design dream-team had been assembled. Plus it was to air on Bravo, home to the Cadillac of creative contests, Project Runway. So what happened?

This interesting article about the Bravo network in New York Magazine breaks down why some shows are hits, why some are flops, and what happens to the legitimately creative talents of Top Design, Top Chef and Project Runway after the cameras stop rolling.
