Harvest Gold

I am not going to lie. Thanksgiving is not my favorite holiday in the aesthetics department. While I love the idea of being grateful for your blessings and celebrating the harvest, for the most part, Thanksgiving is just a drably-hued obstacle in the way of the Christmas countdown.

This year, however, Martha Stewart is challenging my prejudice with her shimmering, golden tabletops--borrowing a bit from her palette for Christmas 2006 (below). And while I am not much of a cook, the Carmelized Apple Spice Cake dusted with gold has me intrigued enough to study the mechanics of the recipe.

It's so pretty! The bummer for Canadian readers is that our Thanksgiving is long gone... so we can either apply these ideas to our Christmas decor or save them up for next year's Thanksgiving. Somehow, doesn't stop me from pouring over all the images and recipes ;)

Inspired idea. I like it.

Very nice ideas. I just asked my husband if we could please eat Mexican on Wednesday night, since the rest of the week will be filled with turkey and dressing.

I agree -- these are definitely beautiful colour schemes -- especially the first.

Love the photos. The golds are so pretty and the cake sounds very cool!

I think the key to Thanksgiving is to really decorate for fall, then it's more exciting. I start buying pumpkins and branches as soon as the weather turns chilly and then add and subtract Halloween decorations. That way you're already decorated for Thanksgiving and by the time the holiday comes, you're ready to get rid of everything and decorate for Christmas.

That is a good idea HC. I think the fact that it stayed so warm, so late this year threw me off the autumnal trail (combined with that tropical vacation in October). We are on the home stretch now!

That is pretty! I don't really decorate for Thanksgiving. I just have a fall thing or two out and that carries me through. Way too close to Christmas for my liking!
