And The Award Goes To...

any year but this year.

NPR has a funny article on why Sunday's Oscars are going to (for lack of a better word) suck.

By the way, am I the only person in the free world who didn't love Slumdog Millionaire?

Ah, the good old days...Grace Kelly and Marlon Brando at the 1954 Academy Awards.

I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire yet, but the story just seems terribly depressing. I'm normaly fanatical about trying to see all the Oscar movies, but I just haven't been in the mood to watch a downer movie.

I was absolutely ragged after seeing Slumdog Millionaire. I almost left in the middle of because it was abusive to my sensitive soul. I only stayed because I hoped for some sort of redemption at the end. I worry about the fact that movies are so hard these days!

Agreed. I thought Slumdog was alternately violent and corny. I can't stand watching "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" on TV, much less in feature film length. Plus, I have seen much better films about poverty in India. I loved "Water" from a few years ago.

Well I guess you are the only one in the free loving world that didn't love Slumdog Millionaire so that of course makes you special. I liked it, but not because it's the "Little engine that could movie". I thought the whole plot was interesting, how each question on Millionaire related to his past, and the backstory.

totally with you!! I thought it felt like a "first film"...it didnt seem like the same person who did Trainspotting did Slumdog. and um, I didnt think it was all that violent? mostly I thought it was corny, redundant, and TOO LONG. quite a bit of the movie could have been edited better.

blah, I'll be totally bummed if it sweeps the Oscars. I am gunning for Milk for Best Film and Mickey Rourke for Best Actor.

I totally agree! all of my friends are convinced it's the best thing since sliced bread and my mom even volunteered to watch it again with me when i went to visit her. I'm not sure if all of the hype made my destined to be disappointed when I actually saw it but I'll be upset if it wins best picture.

p.s. totally agree about water!

I came across an online community for individual seeking interracial love. It is ++++((((---Blackwhitemeet. C O M))))++++ All singles there are seeking interracial relationships. Interracial is not a problem here, but a great merit to cherish!

I've given up watching the awards at all. Mostly because we don't get to the movies, relying on Netflix, and so don't get to see those that are nominated. But on the whole, I prefer romantic comedy, period stuff... You know, "fun." Everyday life has more than enough drama for me.

My votes are for anything associated with Wall-E, The Reader, Rachel Getting Married, and Man on a Wire. Everything else was pretty lame. IMHO.

I thought I was the only one who hasn't even seen it yet! Don't think that I will. And I'm with Easy and Elegant- these days, all I want to watch is light hearted fare.

I actually thought the Oscars were better than expected this year.

me, myself, I said...

All I can say is, it was a great deal better than the book from which it was adapted :)

I just watched it a week ago and still am not sure if I liked it, which I guess means not. i think I like that they are (or were) dating in real life. It was way more violent than I expected. I guess I should see Water? All I know is I am excited for the next Bourne to come out which is totally unrelated to this post but since we are on movies...
