Tented Love

Paris-born designer Helene Aumont is photographed in front of an Italian canvas tent on her ten acre Santa Barbara farm. Within her outdoor room is an 18th century painted cabinet from Europa Antiques, the business she owns with her husband Patrick. In 2002, Aumont launched her own lighting and furniture line, the Helene Aumont Collection, which combines her French and West Coast influences. Says Aumont of her design philosophy, "Artful disarray speaks to a whole new level of luxury."

So interesting! I always wonder how people get away with putting antiques in outdoor spaces. There was an article last month in one of the mags (Veranda maybe?) that had beautiful outdoor rooms spanning the back of the house. Although they were outdoors (with a roof but open to the outside), they were decorated entirely with high end furniture, fabrics, and antiques. I suppose it all comes down to the climate. I can't imagine it in the humidity of the South!

The first thing I thought about when I saw this picture was the tent in the Harry Potter movie...the one at the Quidditch match, where the inside was highly decorated and palacial!

This is definately a foreign concept to me. California is probably the only place in the country that you could get away with this year round.

Love the Harry Potter reference!

I agree with you and Sarah- I love the idea of this, but I can't imagine trying this here in the South. That said, these photos are gorgeous, and I do love tents! So, maybe one day I'll try this too (although on a smaller scale!).

Such a dreamy idea! I fear that even in California the weather would not be too kind to anything too fine. But a seasonal "camp" would be so fun!

This looks exactly like a Moroccan tent to me. She even has Moroccan poufs! I am having a custom tent made in Marrakech and am very excited about it. I already have a Berber tent and we love to hang out and have cocktails in it.
