Is it strange to have a fantasy where I impress the neighborhood with a display of these intricate, lace-carved pumpkins seen in Martha Stewart Living?In real life, this project is honestly a bit more involved than anything I care to tackle. Instead I have compiled a few alternative projects that satisfy the creative side, while remaining considerably less complicated to execute.
Jack O' Lanterns with drilled holes from Good Housekeeping do not require special attachments or carving tools.
Glittered pumpkins from Martha Stewart look elegant paired with silver stands.
Pumpkins with nail head street numbers (from cottage living) satisfy the neutral palette.
Stacked gourds act as a pedestal for traditionally carved Jack O' Lanterns from Martha Stewart.Happy October!

I was going to say that if you had the time or patience to make lace carved pumpkins, I would be very impressed. Lol. They are very pretty though.

This photo was from her site, but I actually have the real page from magazine saved for years--like one of these days I am going to get out the Dremel and make it happen.
I have actually not made a Jack o' Lantern in my adult life so this year will be a first.
The top image looks like creamware - which is appealing, but you'd be freaking out as the squirrels started munching away. The ones with the regular drill bit seems saner. My four year old just asked, "What's inside a pumpkin?" and my seven year old replied, "Seeds. Seeds and ick." 'bout sums it up.
Great collection of photographs. It's so nice that they've reorganized the Martha Stewart website--it's so easy to find inspiring pics. I agree, though, sometimes the projects just take two much effort. Maybe I'll start with the stacking idea; I can probably handle that one.

Very pretty and it certainly would impress the neighbors, but my God, who has the time!! I guess if you have enough money you can hire someone! I wonder what Martha’s pumpkin carver gets paid?

I get pumpkin duty every year, and get less and less creative as the number of pumkins we buy every year increases (we are up to 5 pumpkins now....). I like the 'polka-dot' pumpkins....those look manageable!

I always have to remember not to drink too much when I am drilling my pumpkins, and to clean out the inside first.
I hear there is a severe pumpkin shortage this year - What will Martha do??? Pumpkins turn to mush here in Vegas as it's still 80 - 95 degrees in the daytime around Halloween. You can't even carve them until the day or two before or they get black and moldy. Yuck!
How cool! I love Halloween and fall in general, so these are of particular interest. I can't wait to carve my pumpkin this year, but it would be nice to make it last a little longer.

I really did bring my drill to a pumpkin carving party a few years ago and my friends thought I was nuts (but weren't surprised, either!) In the end when we displayed them on the porch and lit them up, mine was really unique. It's so easy!
