Outside In

Even though the focus of this Domino feature was to showcase an updated daisy arrangement, I could not help but notice the style similarities between this 2008 vignette and the 1949 House and Garden photo below.

Scrolled outdoor furniture pops off of sunny hues and potted greenery bring the garden inside--a look clearly ahead of it's time. (Photographed by Horst P. Horst for House and Garden).

By the way, I officially recant anything I may have previously said about disliking daisies.

I love this! What a great image from the '40s. Totally captures how things are cyclical. Smart comparison too.

I love that daisy spread, so cool, it looks so retro, they have to be small like that I guess, but everything in domino looks great.

Boy Millie, you and I are totally on the same wavelength. I thought the same thing about the Domino & H&G photos (I LOVE that Horst photo). Although, I'm trying to like daisies more, but I'm not certain if I'm succeeding!

Thanks! I have had this H&G photo on my bulletin board ever since I fell in love with that graphic floor--not that I want linoleum to come back.

And yes, I think the mini-daisies are what make this arrangement fresh.

May I still hate daisies? Because I do.

I think it's because they smell so foul. It's a shame, because there is a cute factor to them, but a bad smelling flower... it's just like setting a mean trap, you know?

Do you remember the post from Absolutely Beautiful Things on her 30th birthday celebration? I think they used daisies, and it was one of the most beautiful table displays I have seen. I need to look that one up.

Genius! You are spot on. And c'mon guys, give daisy a break. She has her place.

I like Anna's use of daisies but that's because she makes everything look absolutely beautiful. I still hate them and carnations and while I'm at it lilies. Does that mean I'm not a lemming anymore? Lol!

Ha. Domino had a pretty sassy carnation arrangement in this issue that I almost posted as well. You know what this means...

: )

Daisies are sublime. Nothing fresher, more charming, more inexpensive, more cheerful. However, I agree about the odor. They aren't the most pleasant-smelling bloom.

Great find! And I also am LOVING those tiles. Seems you and I have similiar taste in old-fashioned flooring!
