Sleepy Time Down South

Photograph via DB King/Flickr

I am back from another whirlwind weekend in beautiful Charleston. Of course, I have none of my own photos to share from this most recent trip because:
a) I forgot my camera.
b) It was raining too hard on Saturday to see much of anything.

However, we did discover a charming place to stay, The Middleton Family Bed and Breakfast. Yes, I know the website makes this place look like an apartment where I might have lived in college, but for the price of your average hotel room you get a quaint 1783 carriage house with two bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, kitchen, living room, private courtyard and free parking in the middle of the Charleston's beautiful historic district. Never mind that the eyes in the portraits tend to follow you around the parlor. Just kidding.

I adore Charleston! My aunt used to live there and I used to visit each summer. It was hot but so slow and charming. And oh--the Red Velvet cake!

Seriously, I miss you when you're gone. Your blog and Habitually Chic's are my absolute favorites, and I check at least twice a day for updates, so when you're gone, well, you're really missed!

I hope you had a great time.

There are fantastic antiques in Charleston! A church and an antique store or Auction Gallery on each corner. Lots of English and Carolina/George furniture there.

Aw, thanks Decorno. You and Habitually Chic are two of my favorites as well.

I am so mad that I had no time to shop, but it was raining so hard that we decided to drink instead. Next time it's all about the antiques and red velvet cake.

Fond memories of many a visit to Charleston, the most vivid was our stay at the Historic "Two Meeting Street Inn" during the night of Hurricane Hugo!
Love that town and all the history and one of my favorite colors is "Charleston Green" - an almost black green which they use to paint the doors.

Always love to see which Charleston images you choose to post. Great choices.

Charleston - I've always wanted to visit there! Everything on the west coast I'm afraid is a bit too modern at times.

Millie, seems like we have a little mutual admiration society going on. You and Decorno are my top favorites as well! I definitely miss you both when you are gone. Sorry about your crappy weather but it's always nice to get away regardless!

Don't think I've ever been. But any mention of Charleston reminds me of Rhett's response to Scarlett when she asked where he was going: "I'm going back to Charleston, back where I belong." The rascal.

Charleston is a place I would LOVE to visit. And your accomodations look lovely. I would much rather be in a place full of charm than a stuffy chain hotel.

Hi Millie! Your blog is so great! You really made me miss living in Charleston. I still feel like it is home. Stop in sometime to visit! Best.

Thanks Lee! I took a walk down Short Street the last time I was in town and thought of you.

Looking forward to my next trip to Pieces.
