Ansel Adams, Branches in Snow, 1932It only happens once every few years, but you know what it means--mass hysteria. My office emptied out hours before any flakes began falling and everyone on the roads is acting like they just got their license.
The good news: I get to sleep in tomorrow morning. (Why show up early if no one else is going to? ) The bad news: our version of snow is more like frozen rain, which turns tree limbs into missiles and knocks down perfectly good power lines. I am enjoying electricity while we still have it, but I have a book and a lantern at the ready.

Sounds like a good night to curl up and watch a movie...until the power goes out at least. Fingers crossed for you that it doesn't.

Yes, it has been an exciting afternoon in Atlanta! My kids usually only see snow in Colorado, and they all wore their pajamas inside out this evening because (according to their teacher) it brings good luck for snow (and perhaps a snow day for the teacher).
I am a bit worried about the poor trees in Atlanta, as they are so dry and brittle because of the lack of rain. A little bit of ice might cause a lot of damage!
P.S. - You have inspired me to attempt a redesign of my banner. My first few efforts were horribly distorted. I am not entirely pleased with what I have picked (a bit busy), but it will do for now.

i totally know what you are talking about being from a small town in GA...when it snows or even thinks about it, school was cancelled for like the week! in charleston it never snows...it has twice in the past 10 yrs i have lived here!

I'm jealous! Enjoy the mini 'Snow Day'. Here in NYC no one drives to work so there is no excuse for getting in late. Unless you tell your boss that your snowshoes went missing...
My family lived in Atlanta until I was 8 - I remember so well the "snow days" and the ice and no electricity that followed. We are having a snow day here as well. Pretty and hardly home bound. We will probably go to lunch and a movie. Love the new banner!
I completely relate. I grew up in NC where they also don't comprehend snow. I recall being out of school once for two weeks thanks to a light dusting of flakes. Incredible. Enjoy your power, darling. We'd hate to have you lose it!
I was devastated when I had to go to work this morning. Made me long for the blizzard of '93. 14 inches and no power at my parent's house for a week.
I can't imagine what it would be like to wake up to snow!!! The new header looks gorgeous - so fresh and chic!

Well, this winter is full of surprises . We had snow in Provence as well . This 1932's picture is wonderful
I completely understand! Here in Dallas, we get the same kind of stuff. Wet, icy snow, or usually sleet. I will not even think about driving on it. Not that I can't...but the year I decided not to was the year we had a lot of ice, and I got hit by others 3 times that winter. $500 deductible or a paid day off = no brainer! Anyway, it's a great day to lay about and eat soup or chili!
